The Wolfenstein SS (also referred to as the SS Nazi or Wolf3D Guy) appears only in the two secret maps of Doom II, MAP31 and MAP32. Wolfenstein soldiers fire bullet weapons, much like the Zombiemen; however, they fire at a much faster rate, half of the firing rate of a Chaingunner.
The Nazi SS have only one set of frames for attack animations (as all Wolfenstein 3D enemies), so when they shoot, they always look like they are facing the player. They are also visibly shorter than the rest of (human) enemies, since their sprite height was unchanged from Wolfenstein.
The soldiers drop an Ammo clip upon death. Their wake-up and death sounds are spoken in German and are “Schutzstaffel” and “mein Leben!”, respectively. “Schutzstaffel” translates to “protection squad” and “mein Leben!” to “my life!”. SS is short for Schutzstaffel, a paramilitary organization during Hitler’s tenure as leader of Germany.
