The following types of death exist in Doom and Doom engine games:

  • Normal death - used when none of the below occurs.
  • Gib death - when character is downed to very low health (a negative amount). He then turns into a pile of blood, flesh and bones. A terminal fall in Hexen can also cause this to happen.
  • Burning death (Heretic & Hexen) - when a character in Heretic or Hexen is killed by lava or a fire-based attack.
  • Burning death (Strife) - when a character in Strife is killed with a flamethrower.
  • Disintegration - when a character in Strife is killed with a mauler.
  • Icy death - when a character in Hexen is killed with Frost Shards.
