"They are rage, brutal, without mercy. But you, you will be worse. Rip and tear, until it is done."
― Novik upon starting the level [src]

The UAC is the first level of DOOM, and the player's first introduction to the UAC, Samuel Hayden, Olivia Pierce, demons, and the Doom Slayer. The mission that has you going through this level is called, "Rip and Tear".

You awaken from your slumber to find yourself surrounded by the living dead, and after taking them out and reclaiming your battlesuit, you learn that a demonic invasion is underway on Mars, and that the UAC facility has been overrun by Hellspawn. Time to do what you do best.

You will get the Pistol and the Praetor Suit as you go through the introductory parts of this level, as well as get your first taste of Glory Kills before getting your hands on the Combat Shotgun. You will also get to know your first major enemies, Possessed, Possessed Soldiers, and Imps, which you will be contending with for a good portion of the game. You will also have to destroy your first Gore Nest, which summons lots of demons that you then have to kill before the lockdown will be lifted.

There are no Challenges for this introductory mission, but there are three secrets, one Elite Guard, and one Field Drone to find, as well as a lever which will grant you access to a classic Doom II map, Entryway.

Walkthrough[]

Essentials[]

Walk out of the elevator and jump down. Continue advancing forward until you come to another drop. You can snipe off a few Possessed with the Charged Energy Shot weapon mod on the pistol before dropping down. Upon dropping Imps and a new enemy, Possessed Soldiers, will spawn. Dispatch them. Advance. After a while, you will come to a locked door that requires the blue keycard in order to advance. Walk to your right and curve around. Behind a box, there is a dead body that is holding the blue keycard. Pick it up and backtrack to the locked door. Before dropping down, turn to your left and pick up a new weapon, the Frag Grenade. You can toss one down at a group of Possessed, snipe them with the Charged Energy Shot, or drop down and spam your melee attack. After dispatching them continue to your left and take the left, downwards path. There is a group of possessed. After killing them some imps will spawn. Dispatch them. To the right of the path you came from there is a gap. Jump the gap. On the other side, interact with the Field Drone. Then continue forward. In the next area there will be some possessed, imps, and possessed soldiers. Dispatch them and continue. Next, you will be in a "valley" with some possessed. After a while, some imps will spawn. Dispatch them and the possessed. When you reach the end, turn to your left, and jump up towards the shield, then drop down unto the other side. Next there will be a huge arena, with a whole bunch of possessed, imps, and possessed soldiers. Halfway through the fight, some more possessed soldiers will spawn. After dispatching all the monsters, climb all the way to the top of the tower (it's pretty linear, so don't fret). Enter through either the left or right door (they lead to the same place). Once inside, ascend the stairs then hit the airlock button to end the mission.

Secrets[]

Counting towards the secrets percentage[]

Collectables[]

Secret #2 - After gaining the blue keycard, jump up on the box the dead body is leaning on, then leap forward to the opening in the rock wall. Walk forward to collect Blueguy, which will unlock the Combat Shotgun model.

Secret #8 - When at the end of the "valley" turn around and hug the right wall. Eventually, there will be an opening in the rock wall. Head through it and walk towards the cliff edge in order to pick up Classicguy, who will unlock the Imp model.

Classic Map[]

Secret #5 - When you're supposed to "jump the gap," drop down instead. Some imps will spawn. Dispatch them. Afterwards, follow around the outside of the metallic structure. Eventually, there will be an opening in the mesh. Head through here and to the left. Pull the lever. Walk back out and to where you dropped down. There will now be an entrance. Walking through here will spawn possessed soldiers. Dispatch them. In the center there is a button on the left and right. Pressing the one on the left will reveal a section containing armor and health in the corner of the room. Pressing the one on the right will lower the possessed soldiers, possibly making them easier to fight. Nevertheless, discovering this secret will give you the DOOM II - Entryway Classic Map, which is a recreation of the first map of the game Doom II, Entryway.

Data Logs[]

Secret #1 - After dropping out of the elevator, walk forward. Eventually there will be the data log, A Brief History, surrounded by armor shards.

Secret #6 - Before interacting with the field drone, go towards a path, just off to the left of it. At the end, there will be a cart with armor, health and ammo (specifically shells) on it. In the center, there is the data log Welcome to Mars.

Automap[]

Secret #3 - After gaining the frag grenade, head up the right, upwards path instead of the left, downwards path. There is a possessed guarding the outside. Inside the cave, there is a huge group of possessed, perfect target for a frag grenade. After dispatching them, in the far right of the room, there is an automap station.

Elite Guard[]

Secret #4 - In secret 3, head to the path you didn't take to enter. At the end, before jumping down to the arena, there is an elite gaurd to the right.

Field Drone[]

Secret #7 - The field drone here is (sort of) required, and is on the main path. If you're struggling, see the essentials section.

In-Game Description[]

A Brief History[]

Despite the discovery of liquid water on Mars in the 21st century, the colonization of Mars had little appeal beyond exploration for the next century. With the discovery of the Argent Fracture (a transdimensional stream of Argent plasma) in 2095, settling and mining of Mars became both practical and essential to meet the vast energy needs of Earth. However, the need for atmospheric conversion and terraforming of the Red Planet was a task that seemed insurmountable to all but one corporation - The UAC. Through their diligent dedication to technological advancement and forward-thinking, an outpost was established in MTC 2096 to extract Argent plasma through the Fracture. When this plasma is subjected to the UAC's Fermionic Tranference Pattern, Argent Energy is produced. This remarkable venture eventually bore fruit, as Argent Energy became the primary power source for all of Earth. Visitor to the facility may take for granted the rich atmosphere while on the surface, but it should be remembered that just a few decades ago Mars was an inhospitable desert that could support no life.

Unauthorized explorations into the exclusion zones outside the base are not allowed under any circumstances. Highly volatile experiments and artifacts are researched a safe distance away from the base, and your safety cannot be guaranteed in these areas.
