The Soul Cube appears as a background object in both games set in the DOOM timeline. It cannot be picked up or used, and there is no storyline information associated with its presence. Because the Soul Cube of Doom 3 sacrificed itself to close the Hell Hole after defeating the Cyberdemon, and was therefore destroyed, it is most likely that the "Soul Cubes" seen in DOOM (2016) and Doom Eternal are simply stylized paperweights made in homage of the real Soul Cube, if DOOM 2016 and Doom 3 happen in the same timeline. Furthermore, the real Soul Cube levitated, making it impossible to measure its mass, whereas these "Soul Cubes" do not levitate but sit passively on tables.
Doom (2016)[]
The Soul Cube is present on a desk in Olivia Pierce's private office in the level Lazarus Labs, alongside a number of dig site artifacts, none of which can be interacted with.
Olivia's character bio talks about how she was sent an object while at her previous employer, NanoStruct, that was found near the Argent Fracture, after which she became obsessed with joining the UAC. While this might have been the Soul Cube, no evidence exists indicating this.
What appears to be a Soul Cube is depicted on a carving design which can be found on several stone cenotaphs throughout Argent D'Nur (two are found at beginning of the region flanking an edifice leading down to a statue of the Doom Slayer), where the same scene found on the ancient Martian tablets in Doom 3 is pictured, albeit with some details depicted differently. The Art of Doom notes about these tablets and stones; "...images of a man (or humanoid) seen on various tablets and stones during earlier expeditions."[1]
Doom Eternal[]
The Soul Cube is found on the Slayer's main computer desk inside the Fortress of Doom in Doom Eternal.
