The Slayer Gate is a new feature in Doom Eternal that provides optional, but intense, encounters.
There are a total of six gates, and each one needs to be unlocked by a Slayer Key that's found near its respective gate. Completing all six gates will unlock access to the Unmaykr in the Fortress of Doom.
The Gates may be found in Exultia, Cultist Base, Super Gore Nest, ARC Complex, Mars Core, and Taras Nabad. Choosing to play in these areas should not be taken lightly, as ammo and extra lives that are spent in a gate will not be restored afterwards. (Unlike with Secret Encounters, though, the player can still collect ammo, health, and armor as in any other fight.) In addition, more difficult heavy enemies from later in the game are sometimes introduced early in the Slayer Gate arenas (for example, the Dread Knight). However, completing each gate awards 3 Weapon Points and an Empyrean Key. Collecting all six of these keys is needed to unlock the Maykr device where the Unmaykr is stored.
One can encounter Empowered Demons here, which are demons that are periodically empowered by the Khan Maykr if they killed another player in the campaign. This makes them stronger but also drop extra resources when killed. When they appear they'll have a notice above them of the player's name they killed.
