MAP08: Final Outpost is the eighth level of Doom 64. It takes place in a dreary UAC facility that doesn't hesitate with the ambushes, and a series of puzzles that'll require a little more thought than usual. It uses the music track "The Damned" by Aubrey Hodges. As the title suggests, this is the final location in the mortal realm to be visited in the game, for the teleporter at the end takes the marine to a bad place.

  1. In the later part of the level, an inaccessible plasma rifle sits on a platform which disappears once you hit the switch right in front of it. When you examine the monitor across from where it used to be, you will see the plasma rifle has moved on top of one of 8 random pillars. Pick the right pillar to drop and the plasma rifle is yours. However, every time you look at the monitor, the plasma rifle changes position, and you only get two chances at it, because after you lower two pillars, the rest lock up. Heres the trick; for your first pick, choose any pillar at random and lower it. If you get it on the first try, great, if not, look in the monitor again a few more times. Notice that the hole you made with the first pillar is also changing, as well as the plasma rifle. There are technically four "cameras" in each corner of the room above the pillar room, and each time you look at the monitor, the plasma rilfe location and camera angle both change. The trick is to figure out where the rifle is in relation to the hole you first made. For example, if the first pillar you lowered was in a corner, and the rifle showed up on the opposite corner from the hole, simply lower the pillar opposite the one you first lowered.


  1. After going up the elevator at the beginning, you'll see a hallway with 4 yellow lights on the ceiling. At the end of this hallway is a Chain Gun. Examine the wall to the left of the Chain Gun to reveal a secret passage, with ammo and night vision goggles.
  2. In the large room with the water at the bottom, there's a small alcove with a lamp next to a large grey pillar. This alcove also has a small spot of blood on the floor. Examine the wall by the spot of blood to reveal a hidden secret and Megaarmor.
