MAP05: Flipside is the fifth level of Icarus: Alien Vanguard. It takes place in a simulation of an upside-down world (hence the name), and makes use of Wolfenstein 3D graphics for reasons unknown. It was designed by Mark "Kram Llens" Snell (credited as "Kram Llens").

Secrets[]

  1. In the red brick room west of the yellow door, the western computer panel in the western wall's northern inset is not blinking. Open it to find a green armor (sector 168).
  2. In the same room as secret #1, the southern computer panel west of the southern wall has a stable light too. Open it for two medikits on easy and medium skills or a soul sphere on hard skills (sector 166).

Routes and tricks[]

As with many other levels in Icarus that have "teleporter" or "begin simulation" exits, a death slide can be performed on this level in the exit hall. Because the only rocket launcher on this level is multiplayer-only, you must let a monster kill you to pull it off. It is possible to lead imps from the final, wooden room through the simulation portal, and let them damage you heavily, before running toward the exit as they throw fireballs at you, making sure one kills you. If done correctly, your corpse will slide under the barrier, and into the teleporter, ending the level.
