Vivarium is a bonus level in Hub 5: Necropolis in Hexen.
Walkthrough
Vivarium is the secret level, accessed if you reach the open door without crossing the thresholds into the three tombs in the hub level.
This area has plenty of monsters, which vary based on which class you chose. The fighters will encounter centaurs and green chaos serpants, the clerics encounter dark bishops, ettins and brown chaos serpants, and the mage encounters reivers, afrits and wendigos. As always, ettins will reinforce every four minutes.
The central area has four raised platforms with crushing ceilings, with some mana.
Side paths
On the left and right of the map are sections behind a raised separator and pillars, where the ranged attackers take position. The back wall in the middle of these sections will shoot various projectiles in a large spread (including porkalators). On the north are stained glass windows on a wall that rotates when touched.
The stained glass sections lead upstairs to an overlook over the central area. The eastern overlook contains a mystic urn, and the western overlook contains dragonskin bracers.
Porkalator secret
Near the starting area, there's a small tunnel. To enter it, you need to be hit by a porkalator projectile, either reflecting one off a centaur, or by waiting for the projectile launcher in the side section to fire one.
This small tunnel leads to the secret room behind the starting location. In addition to crystal vials, mana, and flechettes, you can obtain the four pieces of armor, and a rare banishment device.
Exit
The exit is on the north of the map, with an elevator on both sides of the central pillar. You can punch the elevator to lower it, or instead jump on the demon statues beside the central pillar to reach the elevator when it is raised.
Enter the central pillar from the north to light the minotaur statue. This opens the northern exit, although there is one last porkalator behind the portal that returns you to the Necropolis.
