The Great Steppe is a location in Hell.
Description[]
The Great Steppe is a massive plain in Hell, largely barren. It connects to the Umbral Plains via Kadingir Sanctum, and adjoins (or incorporates) the Titan's Realm.
Much like the Umbral Plains and The Well, the Great Steppe is not an area native to Hell, but one pulled into it at some point in the past. It is unclear if it was part of Argent D'Nur, or some other victim of Hell's forces. This is believed to be the origin of the gigantic Hell-city known as The Necropolis, which consists of many temples and places of worship warped to serve Hell's needs.
History[]
In the distant past, the Great Steppe was the battleground where the Doom Slayer dueled The Titan as the latter sought to end his rampage. The Titan was defeated by the Slayer, and its remains left to rot where they fell.
UAC expeditions to the region were fraught with difficulty, including the total loss of one team which nevertheless recovered the remains of an ancient Shadow Lord. This creature was the basis for the construction of the Cyberdemon. Olivia Pierce, under instruction from the Dark Lord, ordered the termination of all subsequent operations within the Necropolis as such investigations might uncover the Crucible.
After his awakening, the Slayer used the Argent Accumulator he tore from the Cyberdemon's chest to open a portal to the Titan's Realm, carving a bloody path through The Titan's remains and the Necropolis on his way to recover the Crucible.
