A frontend is a program, typically with a GUI, that allows the user to select and load levels, along with other parameters, which is normally done through the command line. Notable frontends include the Doom95 launcher, KDX, Doom-IT and D! (from the D!ZONE series).
Many source ports have built-in frontends.
