- For the Strife item, see Energy pack.

An energy cell pack sits above a pool of blood in Doom E3M3: Pandemonium.
An energy cell pack is a "battery" of plasma cells, shaped like a large black and gray car battery, that serves as the larger ammo container for the plasma gun and the BFG9000. It contains 5 energy cells (which have twice the usual amount of energy on the I'm Too Young To Die and Nightmare! skill levels). Each BFG shot consumes 2 whole cells in one shot (or 1 on NM and ITYTD), while the plasma gun empties one cell with 20 shots. So, one pack can provide 100 plasma rifle shots, or two and a half BFG shots.
Each shot from the plasma gun does 5-40 hit points of damage, determined using Doom's pseudorandom number generator. BFG damage calculations are more complex; a direct hit inflicts 100-800 points, after which additional energy damage is discharged, that can take the total damage into the thousands of hit points.
