Doom[]
In classic doom universe energy is usually related to nuclear power (possibly both fission and fusion). See E1M2: Nuclear Plant (Doom). In general it has very little to do with the story, other than base lights are running on some form of energy, and sometimes shut off or flicker.
By products of the nuclear energy called 'nukage' is represented by glowing green sludge and is highly explosive when contained in barrels. See MAP13: Nukage Processing (TNT: Evilution).
Doom 3[]
Most energy appears to be produced by mars abundant resources from fuel created by the Hydrocon. It is used to break down Mars abundant Fe2O3 into both fuel and water. In forms of water, hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen is then stored and then used to create plasma for the Phobos Plasma Reactor.
- Though still in its prototype stages, the Hydrocon will in one dramatic move, forever end all shortages of water and fuel. By splitting iron oxide molecules the Hydrocon produces oxygen and hydrogen cheaply and safely without the need for large amounts of electricity. The hydrogen is then used for hydrogen fuel, a substance so versatile and clean that it can be used in everything from home appliances to today's most demanding rocket engines.
This allows UAC Mars Base/Mars Research Facilities to be self-sustainable, as well as have fuel to ship back to Earth. Hydracon fuel is also used as one of the basic energy sources for the antimatter drives needed to reach deep space.
Most cells and energy appears blue, but there are examples of red lasers used to target to cells at which point it changes to a crimson color (the exact meaning of this is not clear, but it appears to be in a stable state vs an activated state).
In Multiplayer one of the maps is the Tomiko Reactor which appears to be some kind of laser possibly used to split atoms (hydrogen in hydrocon fuel)... It its non-firing state it remains in the blue hydrogen stable state, and turns red when in the firing state...
Resurrection of Evil[]
The UAC AM3 series portable power plant is an ideal redundant energy solution for military and commercial applications. Once deployed, the AM3 can sustain a power output of up to 750 megawatts off a single cell for up to 50 years. An optional dual chamber model is also available, delivering up to 1.5 gigawatts of sustained power. This makes the AM3 the ideal portable power source for the most demanding industrial and military hardware. Powered by propitiatory UAC mag-seal antimatter canisters the AM3 allows for safe transportation even in the harshest of environments. Boosting zero waste emissions thanks to the most advance gamma ray radiation shields, the AM3 is the most environmentally safe energy solution for all of your portable energy needs.
Doom RPG[]
The UAC Mars Research Facilities are powered by a reactor (housing a reactor core) indicating it is some kind of nuclear power plant.
Hydrocon is mentioned in Doom RPG. In reference to Hydracon vials and Hydracon catalyzation. Thus suggesting the term hydracon itself can be a form of energy fuel.
Doom (2016)/Doom Eternal/The Dark Ages[]
Argent Energy[]
The UAC discovered Argent Plasma in 2095 during a geological survey mission in the Promethei Terra region of Mars, in a narrow trench which later dubbed as the "Argent Fracture." The corporation discovered ancient artifacts within the Argent Fracture, among of them was the Helix Stone, which allowed the UAC to learn how to harness and manipulate Argent Plasma. Within a year, the UAC established an outpost to extract Argent Plasma and subjected it to the Fermionic Transference Pattern, producing Argent Energy.
Argent Energy is a form of renewable energy that was discovered by the Union Aerospace Corporation in the late 21st century. It is produced by neutron activation of Argent Plasma. Publicly, Argent Energy was believed to originate on Mars, but in reality, it is secretly mined from Hell, where the element is innately tied to that realm and its demonic inhabitants.
In Doom Eternal, Argent Energy is discovered to be none other than the combination of Sentinel energy and Hell Essence, which is made from tortured souls torn from the bodies of freshly dead mortals trapped in Hell. It's then purified by the ancient Wraiths using Maykr technology to feed Hell's legions and Urdak's Maykrs while the husks of the victims left behind are turned into demons.
Sentinel Energy[]
Sentinel Energy is introduced in Doo Eternal. Largely based on wraith energy.
Doom Novels[]
Classic Doom novels[]
The nuclear plant is a major part of the first book. And the bases small reactor is mentioned.
Doom 3 novels[]
Both use of Hydrocon to collect hydrogen for fuel/energy, and references to the base having a reactor (nuclear) is mentioned. The base has a main reactor, as well.
Ion energy is used in vehicles that does not need fossil fuels or water, but instead used constant energy exchange of charges between ions in a modified microrocket engine.
