Deimos was abandoned some four years before events of Book 1. Not long before Book 1, the moon completely vanished from space mysteriously. Flynn Taggart and Arlene Sanders later are able to teleport to the missing moon after clearing through Phobos Base. They discover the moon is being sent through hyperspace towards Earth. It later ends up orbiting Earth, both build a shuttle out of mail rocket parts, and fly off the surface of Deimos to return to Earth.
